The South-South Youth Initiative (SSYI) has said despite having spent three years on the saddle, the administration of President Bola Tinubu is yet to restore public confidence in the state’s ability to protect Nigerians.

Its president, Comrade Oscar Imeade, in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt, said the administration has not also demonstrated control over the Nigerian territory.

Imeade stated that despite the administration’s claims of killing thousands of terrorists and bandits and securing mass surrenders, insecurity remains endemic as data from independent monitors recorded over 7,000 killings and 12,000 abductions between May 2023 and May 2025.

“Despite claims of killing thousands of terrorists and bandits and securing mass surrenders, insecurity remains endemic. Data from independent monitors recorded over 7,000 killed and 12,000 abducted between May 2023 and May 2025.

“Communities in the North-West, North-Central, and parts of the South continue to face mass attacks, kidnappings, and displacement. The administration has not demonstrated control over territory or restored public confidence in the state’s ability to protect lives,” he said.

The SSYI president stated that although revenue figures improved on paper, there is widespread skepticism about transparency in spending and constituency projects.

Imeade said: “The administration’s flagship moves were the removal of fuel and electricity subsidies and the unification of the foreign exchange market.

While these ended long-running fiscal drains, they were implemented with minimal social protection.

“While revenue figures improved on paper, there is widespread skepticism about transparency in spending and constituency projects. Critics point to selective enforcement, political patronage, and weak institutional checks. The administration’s messaging has focused on ‘the worst is over’ without verifiable improvements in daily life.”
