The Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) has appointed Jude Chiemeka, the chief executive officer of Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), as the Institute’s new second vice president following a competitive election.

This significant role places him on a promising succession path to the presidency of the Institute within the next four years.

In an official statement, CIS highlighted that Chiemeka will collaborate closely with the 14th president and chairman of the Governing Council to further the objectives of the professional body and enhance the strength of Nigeria’s capital market.

Chiemeka, a Fellow and Council Member of CIS as well as the current Chairman of the West African Capital Markets Integration Council (WACMIC), is set to be sworn in on June 25, 2026, alongside Fiona Ahimie, the newly elected president and the Institute’s first female leader.

CIS said, “this election marks a pivotal moment for CIS as it seeks to promote professionalism, uphold market integrity, and foster investor confidence within Nigeria’s capital market sector.

“With over three decades of experience in securities trading, asset management, and investment banking across African markets, Chiemeka brings a wealth of expertise to his new role. He joined the former Nigerian Stock Exchange in 2019 and has held strategic leadership positions, including divisional head of Capital Markets and executive director of Capital Markets, prior to becoming CEO of NGX.”

It added that “Chiemeka’s contributions to market development and innovation have earned him widespread recognition among industry stakeholders.

“Notably, during his tenure at United Capital Securities Limited, he led the pioneering implementation of the first cross-border trading initiative under the West African Capital Market Integration framework.

“He also played a key role in the issuance and listing of the inaugural Eurobond Mutual Fund valued at $10 million on NGX, alongside launching the Wealth for Women Mutual Fund, the first gender-focused mutual fund to be listed on the Exchange.”

Chiemeka is affiliated with numerous professional organizations, including the Institute of Directors (IoD), the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) in the UK, and the Association of Investment Advisers and Portfolio Managers. He is an alumnus of the University of Oxford, Lagos Business School, and the University of Lagos, illustrating his commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
