The National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), said it has trained over 400 women and youths on hospitality and tourism trade through its Sustainable Tourism Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP).
Its director-general, Alhaji Nura Kangiwa disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by its public relations officer, Mr Joesef Karim.
Kangiwa stated that STEP initiative was designed for women and youths in six states.
According to him, the states include Nasarawa state, Benue, Ogun, Enugu State, Bauchi State and Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He noted that women and youths were trained on various hospitality and tourism trade-skills including; throw-pillows and duvet making, soap making and related antiseptics.
“Others are tailoring/duvet up-skilling, tour guiding skills and tradecraft, baking and pastries in different states.
“Different training packages and modalities are being delivered including training-the-trainers and direct-recipient occupational skill training,” he said.
He said that the trainees were given relevant business starter-packs and financial support to jump-start their trades, adding that the programme would be extended to other states
Kangiwa further said that NIHOTOUR STEP Train-the-Trainers intervention would be holding in Argungu, Kebbi and also in FCT for indigents in rural areas.
