The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has called on Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, to liaise with the council as he considers leaving the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for another political platform.
The Bauchi State chapter of IPAC made the appeal on Wednesday while addressing journalists in Bauchi, expressing support for the governor’s reported decision to defect, citing the unresolved internal crisis within the PDP.
The Council noted that, as a key coordinator of political activities in the country, it is prepared to play a leading role in facilitating the governor’s transition to another party.
Chairman of IPAC in Bauchi State, Hon. Auwal Isa, emphasised that Bala Mohammed has the constitutional right to associate with any political party of his choice in order to participate fully in the political process.
He further stated that several political parties are already courting the governor due to his strong political influence both within Bauchi State and across Nigeria.
“Anywhere he goes will certainly witness increased political activities,” Isa said.
He added that IPAC stands ready to provide guidance on the most suitable political platform for the governor, stressing that even if a decision has already been made, the council is willing to support and facilitate the move.
IPAC, however, advised the governor to ensure that any decision he makes is in the best interest of Bauchi State and Nigeria as a whole.
LEADERSHIP reports that on Tuesday Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Mohammed, has announced his plans for considering a move to the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The governor while received an ADC delegation led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, at the Ramat House in Bauchi.
Speaking during the meeting, Governor Mohammed said his camp had explored multiple political options, including the APC, but concluded that they could not remain where they were not wanted.
“We left all our options open, including the APC, but we have realised that we cannot stay where we are not wanted. We must find a place within the opposition. That is why our political destiny appears to be tilting towards the ADC,” he said.
The governor described the ADC as a viable and attractive platform, noting that it has gained increasing acceptance among stakeholders engaged in discussions with him.
Earlier, the leader of the ADC delegation, Babachir David Lawal, said their visit was on the directive of the party’s National Chairman, Mr. David Mark to formally invite Governor Bala Mohammed to join the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
