As Muslims across Nigeria celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, the Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has called on citizens to embrace the virtues of sacrifice, patriotism, and unity in the spirit of the festival.

In a press release issued by the national chairman, Dr. Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, in Abuja, Friday, IPAC urged Nigerians to emulate the teachings of Prophet Mohammed (SAW) and the example of Prophet Ibrahim, whose obedience and sacrifice are commemorated during the Eid

“This is the only country we can call our own,” the statement read. “We must join hands to build a strong, united, progressive, and inclusive democratic society where no one is left behind.”

The Council emphasised the importance of prayers, peace, tolerance, and national unity, especially amid the economic challenges resulting from ongoing reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy. IPAC also highlighted the need for citizens to feel the real benefits of democracy as guaranteed in the Constitution, referencing Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which places the security and welfare of the people as the primary responsibility of government.

The Council expressed deep condolences to the government and people of Niger State following the recent flooding in Mokwa LGA, which claimed over 150 lives and displaced thousands. IPAC called for proactive measures by all levels of government to prevent such disasters and urged Nigerians to support victims of the tragedy.

In addition, the Council condemned recent violence in parts of the country, particularly the killings in Benue State, urging the Federal Government to take swift action to ensure security and protect lives.

“Enough is enough,” IPAC declared. “There cannot be sustainable democracy and development without security.”

The IPAC national chairman Dr. Dantalle extended warm wishes to all Nigerians for a peaceful and joyous Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
