Crisis on Saturday erupted in Ifon, headquarters of Ose local government area of Ondo State as some angry youths have set the police station in the town on fire.

As at the time of this report, the cause of the crisis cannot be ascertained.

LEADERSHIP learnt that a boy was arrested and allegedly tortured to death by the police.

According to a source, the development angered youths in the community who protested the killing to the police station and allegedly chased away policemen on duty before setting the police station ablaze.

Another source told our correspondent that some young individuals got into a fight on Valentine’s Day and one party went to the police station to report the incident, which led to the arrest of two members of the opposing group.

According to the source who do not want his name mentioned, the two arrested individuals were brutally tortured; tragically, one died in his cell Saturday morning, while the other was rushed to the hospital and still in coma.

The group that lost their friend and family member reacted angrily, going to the home of the individual who reported them to the police, where they set the house ablaze.

They then proceeded to the Ifon Divisional Police Station, where they chased away all the officers, including the Divisional Police Officer, and ultimately set the station on fire.

The group gathered again on Sunday to protest but when a team of policemen was dispatched to restore order in the area, they encountered the protesting youth and shot one of them.

Efforts to reach the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami for comments were unsuccessful as she did not answer her calls.
