An advocacy group, Project Rescue Nigeria, has said it’s not too early to commend President Bola Tinubu on the appointments and actions he has taken barely one month after his inauguration.
National coordinator of the group Amb Ibrahim Bala Aboki said contrary to claims that it was too hasty to praise the president for what he has done so far, the new administration was heading in the right direction.
He however added that Nigerians should be patient with the new administration, adding that they will not hesitate to call out the president wherever he goes wrong with his policy.
Aboki, who commended the president on the recent appointments, shakeup in the security system and subsidy removal, said “We are not in haste to praise Tinubu. We thank him for giving us the best and we believe he will continue to give us the best. We call on Nigerians to be patient and tolerant.”
He added “Project Rescue Nigeria Team has pinpointed the key early well-orchestrated moves by His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR vis-a-vis political appointments and signing of Bills aimed at tackling the precarious challenges facing our dear nation.
“We wish to at this juncture, thank all Nigerians for their patience so far with policies which might at the moment cause little discomfort to us all but with a long term good to come with, we urge everyone to continue in this light, as the dividends will come gradually just like we are beginning to experience in the drop in prices of commodities such as the cooking gas, diesel etc., in recent times and more is still coming.
“President Tinubu on assumption of office initiated an urgent meeting between him, the Service Chiefs and the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA). This move, again, underscores the importance and high regards placed on the security on lives and properties of Nigerians by President Bola Ahmed Tunubu. During the meeting, the Nigerian security agencies resolved to stamp out insecurity in Nigeria.
“Our group (The Project Rescue Nigeria Team) is committed to supporting the security architecture by making intelligence available where necessary.
To advance collaboration and create a synergy, we observed that the President has convened a meeting of all the 36 state governors, as this would enable him to reach out to all states, including the ones govern by opposition parties, and also to build internal cohesion and foster unity as Mr. President has actually demonstrated that political parties are mechanisms used to usher politicians to power but thereof the country must remain one indivisible entity with a common goal.”
He added, “Mr. President is tactical and very well equipped for the task before him. Boosting the momentum of the economy to fly on a free market leading to trade liberalisation, Mr. President has removed fuel subsidy as this will reduce corruption and abolish round- tripping in the petroleum sector. Fuel Subsidy removal more of a blessing than a curse on Nigeria Economy.
Again, Mr. President has promptly negotiated with Joint Health Workers Union of Nigeria (JOHESU) and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), as this was informed by the need to forestall industrial crisis and stem all strike actions. Now all Labour union centres are becoming parts of a parcel to forge a united and greater Nigeria, this again has demonstrated Mr. President’s prowess at Negotiations, which will in the long run, be to the benefits of all and sundry.
The three Bills assented to by Mr. President so far, are so outstanding and very encompassing. These are the 2023 Electricity Bills, which deregulate the power sector to enable active private and indigenous participation. With this move, light will become abundant in Nigeria and the darks days of power in Nigeria will soon become a thing of the past. Also assented to was the Bill on new retirement age for judicial officers. So also, very timely.
Valid and prominent is the Student Loan Bill which was initiated to bring relief and succour to the lives of the indigent and less privileged ones. Now, anybody can aspire to acquire higher education in Nigeria. The widening gap between the rich and poor in education has now been mitigated by the Tinubu/Shettima government.
“To pursue the anti-corruption mandate, heads of government agencies are now being suspended to enable them attend to corruption charges levied against them.
“Today, Mr. Godwin Emefiele and Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, both heads of CBN and EFCC respectively, are already in custody and reportedly giving very useful information that can help curb further issues of corruption, No doubt, Nigeria is in for a new beginning that will yield a great economy and political stability.”
