I’ve No Order Of Mandamus To Prosecute Doguwa – Kano AG

Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Musa Lawan has debunked media reports insinuating a perpetual order of Court compelling him to prosecute alleged criminal trial charge against majority leader of the house of representatives Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa.

The commissioner expressed dismay that the plaintiff has failed to properly present the application granted by a State High Court before the public, and deliberately preferred to remain silent than to mislead the public on Doguwa’s trial.

Justice Maryam Sabo Mni on 26 April, 2023 granted a leave sequel to application filed by retired Chief Magistrate Muktari Dandago to compel the Kano AG to prosecute an alleged culpable homicide, criminal conspiracy and other charges brought against Doguwa by the Police.

However, some section of the media who misrepresented the order of the court reported that the AG had been compelled to prosecute the defendant.

“No order of mandamus was issued against me and if the plaintiff’s lawyers would remain professional and minister in the tempo of justice, they should be able to come out clean, devoid of political sentiment and tell the whole truth to the public what the order granted actually means.

“The lawyers that file the case know that the matter was misrepresented but they have decided to remain silence because of politics. The application filed before the court was a leave for me to appear before the court to explain why I should not be compelled to prosecute Doguwa”. Kano AG noted.

Barrister Lawal spoke with journalists on Monday when he appeared to show cause why he should not be compelled to prosecute the embattled member representing Doguwa/Tudun-Wada federal constituency of Kano at the house of representatives.

“We were given a hearing notice that the court we sit on Friday but that did not hold and the case was adjourned to Monday that is today and of course we came here as early as 9am and we were told the case will not go on because the judge is not back.
