The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has commenced the conduct of the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) nationwide.
LEADERSHIP reports that the UTME which begun on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 will run till Wednesday, May 3, 2023.
JAMB had indicated that the examination would be conducted for over 1.6 million candidates who registered for the 2023 UTME.
Meanwhile, a visit to some of the centres by our correspondent showed that candidates were already seated as early as 8am, waiting for the commencement of the examination.
At the Global Distance Learning Institute, Abuja, candidates were seated at about 8am waiting for the examination to commence.
However, an invigilator who identified himself as Rilwanu, said the time for the commencement was shifted from 8am to 8:30am and that they were waiting for order from above.
Rilwanu said the delay was not due to technical hitches but it was just to wait for instructions from JAMB, so that the time would be in tandem with other centres.
One of the Monitors, Abdulrahaman Balogun, said so far he had been to several centres like Jikwoyi, Karu, and Distance Learning Institute and it was a success story.
“This centre (Distance Learning Institute), supposed to have three sessions at 7am, 9am and 11am respectively. However, they have some delay, it was not due to technical hitches but just to get the go-ahead from the JAMB.
“From the record, the first session in this centre supposed to have 200 candidates but 183 was accredited, 16 absentees and one unverified. As you can see, tbe second batch is already waiting. In all, we have close to 99 per cent success in orderliness, arrangements, everything is perfect”, he said.
