The Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Isiaq Oloyede, on Saturday, warned prospective students seeking admissions into tertiary institutions across the country to ensure that the letters of provisional admission handed over to them are genuine ones issued by the board, so as not to jeopardise their dreams of furthering their education.

This comes as the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Abiodun Alamutu, and the Vice Chancellor of Abia State University (ABSU), Prof. Onyemachi Ogbulu, warned students of the institution, particularly those studying at its Ogun State affiliated institutions: Harvarde College in Abeokuta, the state capital, to shun cultism and approach their studies with total dedication so as to be profitable to their parents who have invested so much in them.

The trio of Oloyede, Alamutu, and Ogbulu expressed their concerns while speaking during the 2023/2024 matriculation ceremony of Harvarde College, held in Obada-Oko, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Represented by the Board’s Coordinator in Ogun State, Akeem Abdul-Hammed, the JAMB Registrar declared that any tertiary institution’s admission seeker who fails to follow the due process will lead himself or herself into problems in the future.

Speaking at the event, ABSU’s Vice Chancellor, Ogbulu declared that the institution would not renege in its war of expulsion, as well as melting other stiffer penalties against students found to be contravening the laid down standards on zero tolerance to cultism at the expense of total academics dedication during the period of their studies in the institution.

With particular reference to poor performance and other social vices commonly associated with students in tertiary institutions, Ogbulu specifically admonished matriculating students to stay away from every form of distractions, stressing that ABSU will not “waste time at showing you the exit if you will not conform to the university’s standards”.

In his own address, the Ogun CP, Alamutu, lamented the menace of cultists and other cult related activities across the state, stressing that the trend has become a serious source of worries to the security agencies.

Addressing the students, Alamutu urged the students to rather focus on their studies and shun any form of temptation to join this evil group.

The President and founder of the institution, Dr. Adebayo Ouwatosin however, charged the matriculants to remain focused towards achieving an excellent academic success which he said required diligence and perseverance.
