Akwa Ibom State government has vowed punitive action against two medical doctors who were absent from their duty posts.

LEADERSHIP learnt that two medical professionals, Dr. Uduakabasi Ita, a consultant radiologist and Dr. Mfonobong George Bassey, a consultant haematologist, both staff of the state Ministry of Health, took a dive from their jobs after being trained for eight years by the state government.

However, the commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekim John, who expressed anger over the action of the fleeing medics yesterday in Uyo, the state capital, warned them to resume at their duty posts in the state civil service, or refund all resources spent on their training by the state government.

Henceforth, all medical officers trained by the state government must serve out the agreed number of years in the state before being allowed to resign.“

He insisted that „the government will not allow its best hands to exit service for greener pastures without first serving the Akwa Ibom people whose resources were deployed for their training.“
