Hollywood couple Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are officially calling it quits after two years of marriage.

Lopez, 55, filed for divorce on Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, according to court documents.

The filing marks the end of a highly publicised relationship that began two decades ago, during the filming of the 2003 crime caper ‘Gigli’.

Dubbed “Bennifer” by the tabloids, the couple’s romance captivated the world, with fans and media closely following their every move.

The pair initially planned to marry in 2003 but ended their relationship in early 2004. Nearly two decades later, Lopez and Affleck rekindled their love, culminating in a Las Vegas wedding in July 2022. A month later, they celebrated with a larger ceremony in Georgia.

Reflecting on their rekindled romance, Lopez famously said, “Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient,” after their Las Vegas nuptials.

Court documents revealed that Lopez, who had legally changed her last name to Affleck, did not include details of a prenuptial agreement in her divorce petition. Both Lopez and Affleck, 52, are required to share financial information, including income, expenses, properties, and debts, as part of the proceedings. The court has given Lopez 60 days to file a financial disclosure, after which Affleck will have another 60 days to submit his.

The filing also mandates that any failure to report or update financial information could result in court-imposed sanctions. The couple’s representatives were yet to comment on the divorce filing.

Speculation about the state of their marriage had been growing in recent months. The couple reportedly listed their Beverly Hills mansion for sale at $65 million and were frequently spotted without their wedding rings.

Affleck, a two-time Oscar winner, was previously married to actress Jennifer Garner, with whom he shares three children. Lopez has been married four times, including to Cuban-born waiter Ojani Noa, former backup dancer Cris Judd, and singer Marc Anthony, with whom she shares twins. She was also once engaged to New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez.
