Jennifer Lopez has opened up about her earliest musical influences, revealing that Madonna inspired her so deeply as a child that she would cut up her own clothes to mimic the pop icon’s style.
The actress and singer, 56, made the admission during an appearance on Track Star on Friday, June 5, after correctly identifying Madonna’s ‘Ray of Light.’ Lopez recalled wanting to dress like Madonna and heading to the village to pursue that aesthetic, going so far as to alter her own wardrobe to achieve the look.
Lopez also reflected on her longtime personal philosophy. “I always said to myself, I never want to get stuck,” she said. “I always wanted to keep evolving. I always wanna keep doing new things.”
Elsewhere in the episode, Lopez was quizzed on tracks by Janet Jackson, Salt-N-Pepa, and Selena Quintanilla, the latter carrying particular weight.
Lopez starred as Quintanilla in the 1997 biopic Selena, and she described the role as the launchpad for her music career, saying it motivated her to push past sceptics who doubted she could transition into singing.
