Jibrin Welcomes Expulsion, Accuses NNPP Of Ignoring Due Process

The lawmaker representing Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency in Kano, Abdulmumin Jibrin said he has accepted his expulsion from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), but insisted the action was carried out without due process.

LEADERSHIP reports that the Kano State chapter of the NNPP expelled Jibrin over alleged anti-party activities.

The state chairman of the party, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa accused him of repeatedly launching media attacks on the party and its leadership.

Dungurawa also dismissed Jibrin’s political weight, describing him as a “weak politician” who owed his electoral victory to the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP platform rather than his personal influence.

Reacting to the expulsion, Jibrin in a statement he posted on his X described the decision as “a rude shock,” arguing that the interview he granted in both English and Hausa, which formed the basis of the allegations against him, aligned with the principles of the party and its movement.

“I strongly believe the contents of the interview should not warrant such a heavy penalty,” he said. “No invitation was extended to me to defend myself before any organ of the party. Even under military dictatorship, an accused is subjected to a court martial.”

Jibrin, who served as Director-General of the Tinubu campaign in 2023, noted that while he would have preferred to remain in the NNPP, he has no choice but to accept the party’s decision.

“But for the respect I have for the party, its members and leaders, I would have viewed this action as null and void as it failed to follow due process,” he said.

“I would rather wish the party well and go in peace. I beg the party to allow me to also go in peace.”

On claims that he failed to pay his party dues, the lawmaker denied refusal to contribute financially, saying: “I respectfully request the party to send me the invoice and I will promptly pay. There is no need for litigation.”

He further criticised the NNPP for what he described as its disregard for the contributions and political worth of its members.

“The party does not believe anybody has political value or deserves respect at various levels,” Jibrin stated. “I am grateful to Almighty Allah for whatever value I have, no matter how little. I would rather invest it where it will be appreciated with dignity.”
