Jigawa State branch of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has moblised over 40 unions for the celebration of this year’s Workers’ Day in the state.
The state chairman, Comrade Sunusi Alhassan Maigatari, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on preparations for the event.
He said besides the trade unions they had also invited Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, politicians, religious and traditional leaders, civil society groups, friends and well-wishers to join labour in celebrating the day.
Sanusi added that the theme of this year’s celebration is; “Working towards enhancing the socio-economic well-being of workers.” He described it as timely considering the social and economic instability in the country.
Sanusi added that they would use the occasion to review workers’ lives and their working conditions, and engaging all stakeholders for the way forward in improving the working conditions for effective public service delivery.
“We are on a crossroad now, as in the next few days a new government will come onboard in the state, we appreciate our cordial relationship with the outgoing government in the last eight years and we hope the incoming one will continue from where its predecessor stopped,” he said.
