Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State has cautioned the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) against attacking the reputation of one of the party’s founding fathers, Alhaji Sule Lamido describing such act as nefarious and tantamount to jeopardising the image and unity of the party.
This was contained in a statement by the Jigawa State chapter of the party signed by the secretary, Hon Isa Bello.
They blamed the PDP NWC for not listening to the words of wisdom from the party’s fathers; rather, they continued “beating around the bush.”
“Sule Lamido has simply advised you to wake up and do what is your statutory responsibility with regard to the political crisis in Rivers State and if you can’t protect the interest of the party, you should honourably resign.
“What we expected from our national leaders was to take the correction and do what is needed from them to protect the party’s fortunes and unity before it becomes too late to the party.
“To our dismay, the National Working Committee rather chose to come up with a press statement full of smearing campaign against the reputation of our leader, Alhaji Sule Lamido who is among the surviving fathers who laboured for the formation of the party on which they are riding today, this is very unfortunate.
“Though it appears that the NWC members are very economical with the history of our party, we must remind them that our elders took the risks including going to prison for them to occupy the position they are enjoying now. Therefore, our elders deserve respect not malice,” the statement said.
The PDP state chapter urged the NWC to withdraw their statement and apologise to Alhaji Lamido for the progress of their political party.
