As part of its efforts to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education in the state, the Jigawa State Government has approved the sum of N1,146,647,970.11 to sponsor 150 instructors for specialised training in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses in the People’s Republic of China.

The State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sport and Culture, Hon. Sagir Musa, revealed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting.
He revealed that enhancing Technical and Vocational Education and Training is one of the key priorities of Governor Malam Umar Namadi’s administration, designed to promote youth productivity, job creation and sustainable growth.

The commissioner noted that technical and vocational training is a tool for building the skills of the younger generation to meet contemporary global economic competition and excel.

“In the present society, if you give a child skill training, you have automatically given him a job, also prepared him to be self-reliant and contribute his own quota to building a resilient and sustainable economy in society,” the commissioner stated.

“This policy of Governor Umar Namadi is 100 per cent aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasises youth training and productivity,” the commissioner stated.

Hon. Sagir noted that under the policy, Governor Malam Umar Namadi’s administration established eight new Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) centres and equipped them with modern facilities required for training youths in emerging technologies.

He added that the Namadi administration also upgraded and renovated the existing vocational training centres, while skills training was integrated into school curricula.

“The sponsored training will expose the 150 participating instructors to contemporary teaching methodologies, technical innovations, industry-relevant practices and modern approaches to vocational education.

“The knowledge and skills acquired are expected to be transferred to students and other instructors within the state upon their return.

“The initiative will therefore contribute to the development of a stronger and more responsive TVET system in Jigawa State, while improving the employability and entrepreneurial capabilities of young people through quality technical and vocational education, especially in the eight new TVET centres established by the present administration and the other seven existing Science and Technical Schools across the state,” Hon. Sagir stated.
