The Federal University of Technology, Babura, Jigawa State, has approved a 100 per cent tuition waiver for newly- admitted students enrolled in its B.Sc Mathematics and B.Sc Physics programmes.

The university said the initiative was designed to promote science education and address the shortage of skilled manpower in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medical Sciences (STEMM) fields.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the University Registrar, Mrs Fatima Muhammad, and made available to journalists on Wednesday.

According to the university management, STEMM disciplines remain essential to national development, but Nigeria continues to grapple with a shortage of qualified professionals in core science fields.

“To address this gap, the Management of the Federal University of Technology, Babura has approved a waiver of school fees for candidates admitted into the B.Sc Mathematics and B.Sc Physics programmes,” the statement said.

Muhammad described the policy as part of the institution’s community service efforts aimed at widening access to science education, particularly for students from northern Nigeria and other underserved communities.

She said the waiver would cover tuition and other school fees throughout the duration of the beneficiaries’ studies.

“Beneficiaries will enjoy 100 per cent waiver of tuition and school fees,” the registrar stated.

The university added that the initiative was also intended to boost enrolment in core science disciplines, which often attract fewer students despite their importance to technological advancement, research and innovation.

According to the statement, candidates who initially selected other programmes or institutions may also take advantage of the offer, provided they meet the admission requirements.

“Interested and eligible candidates are advised to effect a change of institution and course to FUT, Babura at any JAMB CBT Centre,” Muhammad said.

She noted that the initiative was consistent with broader efforts to strengthen STEMM education and produce graduates capable of contributing to research, teaching and industrial development.

The university, however, advised prospective beneficiaries to contact its admissions office for further information, eligibility confirmation and guidance on the change of institution or course.

Management urged qualified candidates to take advantage of the opportunity, stressing that the tuition waiver applies to the current admission cycle.
