The Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) has joined the fight against climate change with a tree planting campaign across schools in Bauchi metropolis.
Disturbed by the growing impact of climate change, particularly windstorms, erosion, and rising temperatures, the company said it is redirecting part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives toward environmental protection.
Speaking during the exercise at Kobi Primary School yesterday, the JED State Operating Officer in Bauchi, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Danbata, said the initiative aims to instill environmental awareness among young learners.
“We decided to plant trees in schools to teach the younger generation the importance of trees in mitigating the adverse effects of climate change,” Danbata explained.
In addition to planting trees, JED Plc distributed writing materials to pupils and conducted a safety sensitisation session, cautioning them about the dangers of tampering with electrical appliances.
