Jos School To Become Study Centre For Post-Graduate College

The president, West African Post-graduate College of Medical Laboratory Science (WAPCMLS) and team leader of the accreditation team, Prof. Nafiu Amidu, has said the Federal School of Medical Laboratory Science Technology (FSMLST) in Jos had possessed the necessary facilities to support the fellowship programme of the college.

Prof. Amidu made the disclosure in Jos during the team’s visit to assess facilities and support the fellowship programme.

“We have been going round to look at facilities available. We have seen what is available at APIN Centre, FSMLST, Human Virology Laboratory Centre and facilities at the Plateau State Specialist Hospital. And so far, we are impressed with what we saw and we believe that the basic facilities to support the minimum training look feasible. We would submit our report and I believe that the council would give its final approval,” Prof Amidu said.

On what would eventually be the benefit if approved, Amidu said it would enhance the mobilisation of human resources at the highest level to support the diagnostic needs in the West African sub-region. “Because the centre is going to support the training of medical laboratory scientists within the West African sub-region, we would not be running helter-skelter to mobilise human resources to support the diagnostic needs of the sub-region, especially regarding emerging diseases like the COVID-19 and others,” he said.
