A trader, Mrs Sarah Luka, has returned the sum of N1 million  that was mistakenly put in the goods she bought by a wholesaler in Jos, the Plateau State capital.

Mrs Luka, who runs a small business at Lamingo area in Jos, had gone to Terminus Market on Saturday to buy leather bags from a wholesaler, Mr Abubakar Dola.

According to Dola, he had kept N1 million inside a polythene bag, intending to send it to a PoS operator for transfer.

He explained that in the process of packing the leather bags worth N6,000 for Mrs Luka, he mistakenly included the bag containing the money.

Three days later (Monday), Mrs. Luka returned to Dola’s shop and handed over the entire N1 million.

Mrs Luka in an interview with our correspondent said  as a Christian, she promptly returned the money because it was a clear mistake.

“I am a poor businesswoman, I know what it means to suffer loss,” she added.

“If I put that kind of money that is not mine into my business, I believe God would punish me,” she said.

When asked further what motivated her action, she simply replied: “Because the money is a mistake and not mine.

”Mr Abubakar Dola, who operates from Terminus Market, expressed deep gratitude and relief.

“I had completely given up because I didn’t know how the money got lost. ”

“I didn’t even think I put the money in someone’s goods,” he said.

He added: “I pray Allah rewards her with more than what she did for me.

“I pray Allah gives us more people of her kind who fear God. It’s not easy to have people of her character.”

Mrs. Luka, who hails from Kaduna State but resides in Jos, stressed that integrity is very important in business.

LEADERSHIP reports that her rare act of honesty has attracted admiration across Plateau State, with many describing it as a shining example of good character in a society where such stories are becoming increasingly rare.
