Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM) formerly Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (FUAM) institute of Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards (IPPESS) has held a symposium on procurement as it graduated 525 students.

In his address during a One-Day symposium held in Makurdi, JOSTUM vice chancellor, Prof Isaac Itodo, said responsible procurement was no longer optional but imperative.

The vice chancellor explained that the universities were not only centres of learning and research but also institutions of leadership and example where choices made in procurement, resource allocation, and institutional governance reflect their values and shape the societal impact.

Itodo said institutions entrusted with public resources must ensure that the procurement systems go beyond compliance.

He added that institutions must promote sustainability, encourage innovation, support inclusive economic participation, and safeguard future generations.
