Journalist, Chibuike, Sets New Guinness World Record With 75-hour Interview Marathon

In a historic and inspirational feat, Nigerian journalist Livinus Chibuike Victor has broken the Guinness World Record for the longest interviewing marathon, clocking 75 hours of non-stop conversations in Abuja.

The previous record, held by Clara Chizoba Kronborg, stood at 55 hours and 24 seconds.

The marathon interview session, held at the serene Harrow Park Golf Club in the heart of Nigeria’s capital, was themed “Nigeria Our Strength.”

The marathon started right on time at 12:20 PM on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, and ended on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at 3:40 PM.

Chibuike worked day and night for three days and three nights, going far above the requirement of 72 hours and 30 seconds of interviews, and pushing the boundaries to a record-breaking 75 hours of informative, interesting interviews.

“I didn’t do it for fame,” Chibuike announced as soon as he finished his last session, tired but proud.

“I did it for all the voices that were not heard in Nigeria, for the power of stories, and to demonstrate to the world what Nigerian journalists are capable of doing.”

He said it was more than just an attempt to break a record.

He said it was a bold statement on the importance of press freedom in strengthening democracy.

With each question and answer, Livinus sought to celebrate storytelling, amplify unheard voices, and underscore the resilience of journalists working under immense pressure.

“This isn’t just about endurance,” Livinus remarked during a press briefing. “It’s about showing the world how vital a free press is to democracy. Journalists face censorship and threats, yet we keep going. This marathon is for them.”

Throughout the record-breaking session, Livinus interviewed over 100 individuals, including politicians, industry captains, entertainers, musicians, fellow journalists, and everyday Nigerians. Their varied, heartfelt, and compelling stories formed the backbone of the event’s emotional strength.

Behind this groundbreaking moment was a man with deep conviction. Born and raised in Nigeria, Livinus has long believed in the power of storytelling as a tool for accountability and change. With years of experience in the newsroom, he’s known for his fearless reporting and unwavering principles. Outside the newsroom, he mentors young journalists and advocates fiercely for press freedom, a cause he considers sacred.

Months of preparation preceded the marathon. Livinus undertook mental and physical training, combining meditation, resilience-building routines, and a strict nutritional plan to condition his body and mind for the challenge. A medical team monitored his vitals throughout the event, ensuring he remained hydrated and alert with nutrient-rich meals and strategic rest breaks.

The achievement drew admiration and support from many quarters. The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council was prominently present, cheering him on every step of the way. NUJ chairperson Grace Ike called the effort “a bold and inspiring act that shows journalism’s power to drive change.”

The previous record-holder, Clara Chizoba Kronborg, had set her milestone in Marbella, Spain, from March 8 to 10, 2024. But Livinus was determined to push further, exceeding her time by more than 17 hours. He initially planned for 72 hours but powered through over 75 hours of interviews, driven by purpose and passion.

“I interviewed over 150 people, including politicians, captains of industry, entertainers, actors, musicians, journalists, and people from all walks of life,” he later revealed. “The initial plan was 72 hours, but I did it for over 75.”

His success goes beyond the stopwatch and certificates—it serves as a clarion call to defend press freedom and uphold the rights of journalists everywhere. Livinus hopes his effort makes history and sparks renewed support for quality journalism and greater protections for media practitioners.

“When journalists are free, people are better informed, and our democracy thrives,” he emphasised.

Livinus is already thinking of his next adventure—an interview in Antarctica, proving that no place is too remote for meaningful conversations and impactful storytelling.

The session covered a broad spectrum of subjects, such as politics, entertainment, current affairs, the state of the nation, business, and agriculture.

Attendees included a sizable number of fellow journalists who brought new ideas and participated in the celebration of the profession that the marathon itself was a tribute to.

The effort adhered to strict Guinness World Record guidelines, with a team of expert medical professionals, nutritionists, timekeepers, and technical staff on hand throughout the marathon to monitor compliance and safety.
