Julius Berger Nigeria Limited  has completed the 37.9-kilometre Bodo-Bonny Road project in Rivers State, marking a major milestone in infrastructure development in the Niger Delta.

The project manager, Engr. Tim Nippert, disclosed at the project base in Bodo on Monday that the road construction has been completed, with only finishing works such as tree planting, streetlight foundation laying, and pole installations ongoing around the kilometre 12 roundabout.

In a press statement yesterday, he said some bridge joints are also being finalised following the arrival of previously delayed imported materials, adding that all outstanding works would be completed within two weeks.

Nippert explained that despite the difficult swampy terrain and tidal challenges encountered during construction, the company delivered the project within the approved budget and even generated savings.

He said the savings were being used to fund additional features including streetlights and beautification works without extra financial burden on the government.

The minister of Works, David Umahi had earlier directed that the road be opened to traffic by the end of November 2025 while full completion and commissioning would follow later.

Umahi, during an inspection tour of the project, described the road as a technically demanding coastal infrastructure crossing marshy lands. He noted that although the project cost averaged about ₦7.4 billion per kilometre, the figure was justified by the terrain and quality of construction.

The project, which commenced on October 20, 2017, provides the first road link between Bonny Island and the rest of Rivers State. It includes major bridges across Afa Creek, Nanabie Creek, and the Opobo Channel.

The minister also revealed that the President  has approved Phase Two of the project, aimed at improving connectivity, boosting commerce, and reducing insecurity in coastal communities of the Niger Delta.

The Bodo-Bonny Road is jointly funded by the federal government and  under a public-private partnership arrangement.
