JUST-IN: 4 Dead, 7 Injured As 3-Storey Building Collapses In Kano

At least, four persons have been confirmed dead and seven others injured following the collapse of a three-storey building at Abedi area of Sabon Gari in Fagge local government area of Kano state.

Spokespersons of the Kano State Fire Service and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Saminu Yusif and Umar Madigawa confirmed the incident to LEADERSHIP.

Building Collapses

The spokespersons explained that the building collapsed Sunday evening after a heavy downpour.

According to them, the victims included construction workers and passersby who got trapped in an uncompleted structure while taking shelter during the rainfall.

Madigawa stated that the Kano operation office received a distress alert at 6:49 pm about the sad incident and immediately activated its Search and Rescue (SAR) response by mobilising response team in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

He added that as at 11:30 am of Monday, 11 victims have been rescued, among whom four were already dead and seven others alive, adding that they have been evacuated to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital for medical attention.

Madigawa also added that efforts were being intensified by the emergency responders to safely reach others who may be possibly trapped under the debris.
