The Abuja Peace Pact, midwifed by President Bola Tinubu, in the wake of the political crisis in Rivers State between the camps of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his estranged political godfather and FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has collapsed.

The pointer to this development was the resignation of two Commissioners from the cabinet of Governor Fubara on Wednesday. Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Zacchaeus Adangor, and his Finance counterpart, Hon. Isaac Kamalu, resigned their positions in Rivers State Executive Council following their redeployment to other Ministries.

Recall that both appointees, who are die-hard loyalists of Wike, had a few months ago resigned their positions in the wake of the cold war between the two Rivers political gladiators. However, President Tinubu intervened, leading to the signing of a peace pact with conditions set for both camps.

One of the key conditions of the agreement was the reabsorption of the pro-Wike allies into Fubara cabinet.

However, the peace pact may have been shattered as both appointees rejected their redeployment to other ministries by the governor, saying they were no longer interested in serving in Governor Fubara’s cabinet.

Shortly after the news of Prof. Adangor’s resignation broke, the erstwhile Commissioner for Finance, Isaac Kamalu, who was redeployed to the Ministry of Employment Generation and Empowerment, also resigned his appointment as a member of the Rivers State Executive Council.

Kamalu’s resignation came barely two hours after the former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Zacchaeus Adangor, tendered his own resignation letter.

Both former commissioners are die-hard loyalists of immediate-past governor of the state and Minister of the FCT, Chief Nyesom Wike.

Kamalu, in a letter addressed to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, though the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, said it was a letdown on him to be redeployed when he has contributed immensely to the economic growth of the state.
