The Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Hon. Samaila Bambu, has been abducted by suspected bandits in his hometown, Bagudo, located in the Bagudo local government area of the State.
According to local sources, the incident occurred on Friday evening when gunmen, believed to be members of the Lakurawa terror group, stormed the area and whisked away the lawmaker.
Confirming the development, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kebbi State governor, Ahmed Idris, said that he had just received initial information about the abduction.
“Yes, I just got the information about the alleged abduction of the Deputy Speaker in his hometown this evening. I am in touch with the Director of Security in the state,” Idris said.
He added that the government was already taking steps to address the situation and will provide more details once a full briefing is received.
“Once I get the details of what transpired, I will alert you very soon on the government’s position,” he said. “I can assure you that the state government is on top of the situation and will ensure he is released safely.”
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies have reportedly been mobilised to the area in a bid to rescue the abducted lawmaker and apprehend the perpetrators.
