Gunmen suspected to be bandits have invaded a mosque in Kankara local government area of Katsina State on Thursday, killing three persons and kidnapping several others.
A credible source in the area revealed that the bandits raided the mosque and opened fire on the Muslim faithful during the Isha’i evening prayer session, leaving three persons dead, four others wounded and unconfirmed number of worshippers abducted.
He further explained that the hoodlums also moved into the town where they abducted a man and two women and also killed a man who refused to go with them.
“Unfortunately, the man’s refusal to go with the assailants cost him his life as he was mercilessly butchered for daring to defy the abductors,” the source said
Similarly, the bandits also attacked the residence of Sani Maikifi, a vigilante member, in Ungwar Tudun Boka within Kankara township on Thursday night, but he narrowly escaped through the backyard while his wife and son were abducted.
Findings showed that the hoodlums had been threatening Maikifi for some time, and this led to the sudden attack on Kankara town.
As at the time of this report, there was no reaction from either the State government or Katsina State Police Command regarding the attacks, as the renewed attacks have continued to raise concerns despite the efforts of the security operatives and members of the community watch corps in the state.
