The Emir of Kano Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero on Wednesday paid a visit to the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, Ogbagba II, in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State to felicitate with the first class monarch on his 90th birthday celebration and 60th year on the throne.

The visit is also to strengthen the cordial relationship that has been in existence for several years between the Awujale and the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero.

LEADERSHIP also understands that the visit was targeted at reinforcing the enduring ties between two of Nigeria’s most respected traditional institutions.

The Kano Emirate had in an earlier communication dated May 19, 2024, titled, “Notification of our visit to Ijebu Ode Kingdom” personally signed by the Emir of Kano, highlighted the dual purpose of the visit to include honouring Oba Adetona on his birthday and to celebrate his notable achievements on the throne.

The Emir stated, “We wish to pay our respects to His Majesty to strengthen the cordial relationship that has been in existence for several years between the Awujale of Ijebuland and our father, the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, of blessed memory. At the same time, we will seize the opportunity to felicitate His Majesty for attaining the age of 90 years, as well as being on the throne for 64 years.”

The relationship between the Kano Emirate and the Ijebu Kingdom has historical significance, rooted in mutual respect and shared cultural values.
