A family source said the Professor of Law was released around the hills between Akwanga and Nassarawa Eggon local government areas of the State Sunday night.

LEADERSHIP reports that the former deputy governor was kidnapped Thursday night in his country home of Rinza in Wamba local government area of the state.

His abductors had initially demanded N70million as condition for his release but family members begged that the sum be reduced to N2 million.

Family members later raised the sum to N3.5million but both parties arrived at four million Naira which was paid before his release.

“They collected the ransom near Mada Hills Secondary School in Akwanga, with N200 recharge card, then he was released near Angwan Chiyawa, close to those hills between Akwanga and Nasarawa Eggon,” a family source said.

It was gathered that Prof Gye-Wado was taken back to the palace of the paramount ruler of Wamba, Oriye Rindre, Justice Lawal Musa Nagogo, upon his release.

A former NUJ chairman and also a former Commissioner of Information in the state, Mr Dogo Shamma, confirmed the release of Prof Gye-Wado via a text message he sent to NUJ state council WhatsApp platform around 10:06pm on Sunday.

“To God be the Glory Prof. Onje is finally released from the hands of kidnappers just now,” the message said.
