One of the farmers injured during an attack by suspected Fulani herders in Baji Village, Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State, Yahaya Ibrahim, has died while receiving treatment at a hospital in Lambata.
LEADERSHIP had reported that several residents were injured during the attack, with Ibrahim and two others, Rabiu Jibrin and Bashar Mohammed, receiving treatment at Lambata Hospital.
A villager, Mohammed Umaru, who confirmed Ibrahim’s death to LEADERSHIP, said he died late Tuesday while undergoing treatment for a deep injury sustained during the attack.
Umaru described the death as a major blow to the community, which he said had been subjected to repeated attacks without adequate intervention.
It was gathered that suspected herders had taken over farms belonging to 92 households in the community and destroyed their crops.
The villagers reportedly confronted the herders in an attempt to stop the destruction, during which Ibrahim and others were attacked and injured.
