A Divisional Police Officer (DPO) with the Delta State Police Command has been killed by kidnappers who also shot another police officer.
The DPO, just posted to Agbarho Police Division in Ughelli North local government area of the state, was killed by kidnappers while his colleague in Ororokpe, Okpe local government area of the state simply identified as CSP Paul, was seriously injured and is currently on a life support in an undisclosed hospital.
A source disclosed that both victims had responded to distress calls at about 1:30am on Monday morning that some persons had been kidnapped and their vehicle was trapped at the Agbarho railway station.
“Immediately, the new DPO contacted his Orerokpo colleague and they mobilised to the area and unknown to them that the kidnappers laid ambushed for them and fired at them.
“The Agbarho DPO was killed, his Orerokpo counterpart was seriously wounded and rushed to an undisclosed hospital.
“Information about other policemen in the team were sketchy. Some said they were also killed while some said they were injured. We don’t know for now.
“The Agbarho DPO just resumed duty two days ago and as we talk, his wife is still in the hotel where they were staying. The wife is not even aware of what happened to her husband.”
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, was yet to comment on the incident.
He did not answer calls nor reply to the text messages sent to his known mobile phone.
