JUST-IN: Ogun REC, Olaniyi Ijalaye, Dies

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the death of its Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ogun State, Olaniyi Ijalaye.

INEC National Commissioner and chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, said Ijalaye died on Monday after attending the regular quarterly meeting of the Commission in Abuja.

Olumekun said Ijalaye, who hailed from Owo, Ondo State, was born in 1958 and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B) from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) in 1982. He was called to the Nigerian Bar (B.L) in 1983 while he obtained a Master’s degree in Law (LL.M) from the same University in 1995.

He said until his demise, the deceased who assumed duty on February 23, 2022, worked with integrity and was hardworking and conscientious.

According to Olumekun, the Commission extended its heartfelt condolences to Ijalaye’s immediate family and prayed that God would grant him eternal rest.
