There was panic in Keffi town, the headquarters of Keffi local government area of Nasarawa State, following an explosion in the wee hours of Sunday.

Two people were confirmed dead in the incident suspected to be a bomb blast.

The explosion, according to sources, occurred opposite the General Hospital, along Nasarawa Road, Keffi.

Our correspondent gathered that the suspected bomb went off from a residential apartment in the area, rented by two occupants, killing both of them in the process.

It was learnt that the occupants, who were hardly around, returned from a journey only Saturday afternoon.

A source said that hours after their arrival, some operatives of the Department of State Security Service (DSS) surrounded the building.

According to a source, the victims may have detonated the explosive vests on grenade after sighting the security operatives.

The remains of the victims showed that the explosion cut them off in halfs and their arms.

The source noted that many residents who leave close to area fled when the incident occurred.

The source, however, added that people who were initially sceptical about the development, trooped to the scene of the incident as early as 6 o’clock when they noticed heavy presence of security operatives.

He noted that the bodies of the victims have been evacuated from the scene to an undisclosed hospital in the area.

The source also said the scene of the incident has been condoned off by the security operatives after an initial search for evidence.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command said he was in Church and promised to reach out after the service.
