The Kano State Police Command has banned all Durbar activities during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr Sallah festivities, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public order.

The announcement was made by the State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters on Friday.

According to CP Bakori, the decision was to ensure a peaceful and secure environment throughout the celebrations.

He assured residents that adequate security measures had been put in place to protect worshippers at designated Eid prayer grounds.

“As we celebrate, let us remember that peace is paramount. We must put aside our differences and work together as law-abiding citizens for the progress of our state and nation,” CP Bakori stated.

He urged worshippers to comply with security guidelines, such as avoiding the carrying of items that could raise suspicion.

The Commissioner also emphasised strict ban on horse riding (Kilisa), car racing, and reckless driving during the festive period.

Furthermore, parents and guardians were advised to caution their children against being manipulated by subversive elements, stressing the importance of adhering to public order to prevent any breach of peace.

The Command also called for continued cooperation with security agencies and urged residents to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

LEADERSHIP reports the Kano annual Durbar, a cherished cultural event featuring colourful horse parades and displays of traditional heritage, has not been held since the emirate tussle began in 2024. However, the 16th Emir of Kano State, Muhammadu Sanusi II, was already planning to hold a Sallah Durbar following the directive of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the return of the event this year.
