The House of Representatives has confirmed the appointment of Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the substantive Chief of Army Staff.

Oluyede’s confirmation followed the adoption of the report of the House Ad-hoc Committee on Confirmation and Screening for the Acting Chief of Army Staff at plenary on Thursday.

LEADERSHIP reports that Oluyede appeared before the House Joint Ad-hoc Committee on Defence and Army for screening and confirmation on Wednesday when he assured of contributing his utmost best to bring lasting peace to the length and breadth of the country.

The Committee in a report laid before the House by its Chairman, Hon. Babajimi Benson (APC, Lagos), prayed the House to confirm Lt.-Gen. Oluyede as the Chief of Army Staff of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, having successfully undergone the screening process of the panel.

“The Ad-hoc Committee carefully and thoroughly engaged with the nominee for the position of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede and was satisfied with his academic and professional qualifications, exposure, conduct, character, experience and general performance.

“The ad-hoc committee also observed that the nominee displayed wide and indepth knowledge on strategies, tactics and military operations as exhibited during his acting capacity.

“Consequently, the Ad-hoc committee do hereby recommend that Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede be confirmed as the Chief of Army Staff of Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, having successfully undergone screening process of the Ad-hoc committee,” the report read.

After reading the recommendations of the ad-hoc Committee, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu who chaired the Committee of the Whole subjected it to voice votes and it was overwhelmingly approved.

The report of the Committee of the Whole was also adopted when the House reverted to plenary presided by the deputy speaker, consequently confirming Oluyede as substantive Chief of Army Staff.
