President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday met with service chiefs at the Presidential Villa in Abuja amid the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.
The high-level security meeting comes as tensions escalate following the Tuesday explosion at the Trans-Niger Pipeline (TNP) in Bodo, Gokana local government area of the state.
Authorities are investigating the possible connection of the blast with sabotage, particularly in light of recent threats from militant groups protesting federal government’s withholding of Rivers State’s monthly allocations.
The TNP, a key pipeline supplying crude oil to the Bonny Export Terminal is critical to Nigeria’s oil exports.
Among those in attendance were Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar.
Also present were the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Tosin Ajayi; Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed; and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
The outcome of the meeting has not been made public as at the time of filing this report.
