President Bola Tinubu and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Wednesday arrived at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja for the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general election.
They were received by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and governors from 33 states.
The inauguration formally brought together members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political figures enlisted to strengthen Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027.
LEADERSHIP reports that the APC recently revised its Presidential Campaign Council to accommodate political figures outside the party, including Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Adeleke, who belongs to the Accord Party, was appointed to coordinate Tinubu’s campaign in Osun State, while Soludo, a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), was assigned to coordinate campaign activities in Anambra State.
The inclusion of the two governors is part of the ruling party’s efforts to broaden its political support base ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The revised campaign council also appointed Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to coordinate campaign activities in Rivers State and the FCT.
Under the arrangement, Tinubu will serve as chairman of the Presidential Campaign Council, while Vice-President Kashim Shettima and Yilwatda will serve as vice-chairmen.
The expanded campaign structure reflects the APC’s strategy of building alliances across party lines and consolidating support ahead of the 2027 polls.
