President Donald Trump, on Thursday, announced that the United States had carried out what he described as unprecedented “powerful and deadly” military strikes against Islamic State (ISIS) fighters in North-West Nigeria.

Trump stated via his Truth Social platform that the operation targeted militants responsible for the killing of “innocent Christians” and was ordered by him in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the United States.

“Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in North-West Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even Centuries!” Trump posted on Christmas Day.

“I have previously warned these Terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was.”

The US military’s Africa Command (AFRICOM) said on X that the strike was conducted at the request of Nigerian authorities and that it killed multiple Islamic State militants, confirming the broad outlines of Trump’s announcement though providing limited operational detail.

Trump’s post, which repeatedly used the phrase “ISIS Terrorist Scum” and praised the operation, went on to credit what he called the “Department of War” with executing “numerous perfect strikes,” then added, “Under my leadership, our Country will not allow Radical Islamic Terrorism to prosper. May God Bless our Military, and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, including the dead Terrorists, of which there will be many more if their slaughter of Christians continues.”
