Justin Bieber has joined the star-studded halftime show lineup for the World Cup final on July 19, FIFA announced, performing alongside Madonna, Shakira, BTS, Burna Boy, conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the PS22 Chorus.
The 11-minute performance, curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin, will take place during the final outside New York and supports the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which aims to raise $100 million for children’s access to education and soccer.
“The FIFA World Cup brings the world together in a way nothing else can,” Bieber said in a statement. “I’m grateful to be part of this Halftime Show, and even more grateful knowing it’s already helping expand access to education for children around the world.”
Burna Boy’s addition is particularly notable as he co-performs this year’s official World Cup song “Dai Dai” with Shakira, a multilingual Afrobeats-Latin fusion track that name-checks competing nations including Brazil, Argentina, Mexico and the Netherlands.
“To represent Africa on the first-ever FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show is a privilege and a responsibility that I don’t take lightly,” Burna Boy said.
The performance will also feature characters from “Sesame Street,” including Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. Unlike the Super Bowl, halftime shows are rare in soccer, with major events like the Champions League final typically featuring pre-match concerts.
