The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Abia State chapter, has suspended its two-month-old strike, assuring that no member will be penalised for participating in the industrial action.
The suspension was announced by the state chairman, Chinedu Eze, during an emergency meeting held in Umuahia.
Eze said the decision followed agreements reached with the state government after series of engagements aimed at resolving the industrial dispute.
He said the Abia State Government had committed to paying arrears of leave bonuses up to 2025, alongside other civil servants in the state.
According to him, the government also agreed to begin payment of pensions owed to verified retired judiciary staff.
He added that discussions would continue on strengthening judicial independence in the state.
“The government has undertaken to pay arrears of leave bonuses to members up to 2025 concurrently with other civil servants in the state,” Eze said.
He also noted that salaries of judiciary workers would be adjusted to align with the Consolidated Judiciary Salary Structure (CONJUSS).
“The government further undertook to adjust salaries of members to conform with the CONJUSS template,” he said.
The communiqué was signed by key stakeholders, including Abia State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna, Commissioner for Finance Uwaoma Ukandu, and Commissioner for Labour and Productivity Kingsley Nwokocha, as well as the JUSUN national leadership.
Eze further said the union would ensure members are verified by the Judicial Service Commission and sensitised on ongoing digitisation reforms in the state judiciary.
