Bandits have attacked Angwan Waziri, Karji, and the neighbouring Babban Saura communities in Chikun local government area (LGA) of Kaduna State.
They killed a man and abducted an unspecified number of residents, including a nine-year-old boy and his uncle.
A victim, Linda Nzekwe, told LEADERSHIP Friday that the attackers invaded her home at about 12:05 am, breaking the security lights and attempting to force their way through the main door.
Nzekwe said the attackers, whom she heard speaking in Fulani language, eventually broke through the wall of her dining room after they could not gain entry through the door.
She said the attackers assaulted members of her family before abducting her nine-year-old son and her younger brother.
According to her, her son was not wearing clothes or shoes when he was taken away, adding that she had not been able to establish his whereabouts or whether he had eaten since the incident.
“I don’t know if my son has eaten. I can’t eat. Please God, I don’t know if my son has eaten,” she said.
Nzekwe said she called several people for help, including the police, while the attackers were breaking into her home.
She added that they also broke into her parents’ section of the house, ordered them to sit on the floor and demanded money.
Another resident of Angwan Waziri, Andrew Mshelia, said the attack began shortly after 12:05am, when a neighbour called to inform him that armed men had taken over parts of the community.
Mshelia said he subsequently heard gunshots and fled through the bush with members of his family, narrowly escaping an encounter with the attackers.
He said the attackers were on foot and moved from one community to another, breaking into houses and abducting residents.
According to him, a man identified as Sikiru was killed in one of the neighbouring communities, while an unspecified number of residents were taken away.
Mshelia said the exact number of abducted persons could not immediately be established because the attackers entered several houses and took away family members.
He added that some residents who came into direct contact with the attackers while fleeing were also reportedly abducted.
The residents appealed to the government to urgently intervene, saying bandits had been terrorising their communities and calling for measures to protect lives and property.
Meanwhile, all efforts to get the reaction of the Kaduna State Police Command proved abortive, as the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, did not respond to calls and messages seeking confirmation of the incident.
