Following the accidental drone bombing of Tundun Biri, Kaduna State by the Nigerian Army, the Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG) has appealed for calm and urged the military to take steps to prevent similar incidents from happening again.

The group expressed its condolences to the families of the victims and condemned the attack, which left over 86 people dead and many others injured.

In a statement signed by its national coordinator, Alh Ibrahim Abdullahi, the group stated that the attack must not have been deliberate but cautioned the military to be extra careful in future operations to avoid causing further harm to civilians.

“We urge the Nigerian Army to concentrate on its core mandate of being ground officers and soldiers and restrain itself from involvement in air strikes with drones,” the statement said.

The group also called on the Nigerian Airforce (NAF) to step up its level of training and routine maintenance of facilities to avoid future mistakes.

“While we salute the military over its commitment to the internal and external security of Nigeria, it urged the commanding military authorities to note that accidental bombing and military air-crashes have been creating fears in the minds of the people,” the statement concluded.

The MMWG’s appeal for calm comes as tensions remain high in Kaduna State following the bombing. The incident has sparked anger and frustration among residents, who are demanding justice for the victims.

The Nigerian government has promised to investigate the incident and hold those responsible accountable. However, some Nigerians are skeptical that the government will take meaningful action to prevent similar tragedies from happening again.
