Following the attacks in Naridon and Chawai Chiefdom, the Community Development Associations (CDAs) Forum in Kauru Local Government says it is devastated and outraged by the attacks.
The attack carried out by gunmen killed at least 30 people.
A statement jointly signed by Dr Billy Ishaya La’ah, Chairman, Kauru LG CDAs Forum, and Secretary, Danbaba Katuka, said reports indicate that about 30 innocent people, mostly women and children, were brutally killed.
Several others sustained various degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment. Families have been shattered and the community thrown into deep mourning, as houses with property worth millions of naira were set ablaze by the attackers.
“What makes this tragedy more painful is that this attack happened despite the presence of military personnel stationed in Kifin, just a few kilometres away from Naridon. The question on the minds of every citizen in Kauru today is, how did this happen under the watch of soldiers?
“This barbaric incident is coming less than a month after a similar attack at Ungwan Magaji, Kamaru. The repeated loss of lives shows that the current security approach is not working as expected.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims, especially the women and children who were cut down in cold blood. We pray to Almighty God to grant the departed eternal rest and to grant the bereaved strength to bear this painful loss. To the injured, we pray for a speedy recovery. To the people of Naridon and the entire Chawai Chiefdom, we stand with you in this dark hour. Be comforted.
“The Kaduna State Government and Security Chiefs are to review the deployment of security personnel in Kauru LGA immediately,” the statement said.
The group said the government should urgently provide a lasting solution to the persistent attacks in Chawai Chiefdom and Kauru LGA, adding that their people can no longer live under constant fear of being killed in their homes.
“We are also appealing that the government should take responsibility for the treatment of the injured persons.
“All community members are to remain calm and continue to cooperate with security agencies with credible information. We must not allow grief to lead us into reprisals.
“Enough blood has been shed. The government must act now to protect lives and property. The people of Kauru deserve peace,” the statement added.
