The Kaduna State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Isa Ashiru Kudan, has denied blaming the administration of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai for escalating insecurity in the state.
Ashiru described a newspaper report suggesting that he accused the former governor of worsening insecurity as misleading and a misrepresentation of his position.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary and Spokesman, Abdulwaheed Olayinka Adubi, the ADC candidate said his comments during a television interview had been misconstrued.
Ashiru acknowledged appearing on Trust TV’s Politics Today on Monday, October 26, where he discussed political developments in Kaduna State and other issues of public interest.
He maintained that the report did not accurately reflect his position on El-Rufai or the security challenges confronting the state.
The ADC candidate disclosed that the newspaper was working towards correcting the report, expressing confidence that the proposed correction would clarify the matter and prevent further misunderstanding.
He said public discourse on insecurity should be guided by facts and balanced reporting, rather than inaccurate representations capable of generating unnecessary controversy.
Ashiru urged media organisations to ensure that reports of interviews and other public engagements accurately reflect the views expressed, particularly on sensitive issues such as insecurity.
He reaffirmed his respect for the media and its role in promoting accountability, strengthening democracy and keeping citizens informed, while urging journalists to uphold accuracy, fairness and professionalism in their reporting.
