The 2023 edition of the annual Kaduna International Polo tournament is set to gallop off from October 31 to November 12 at the Kaduna International Polo Club.
The tournament manager, Kaduna Polo Club, Atiku Abubakar disclosed this yesterday during the test run of the pitch at the polo club Kaduna.
“The Kaduna Polo club is going to hold its annual tournament on October 31, 2023 and this is the first time we are going to do it within two weeks”.
“We are going to play the prestigious Georgian cup, which is the largest and oldest cup in Africa, Imani cup, Emir of Katsina cup and El-Amin cup,” he said.
Abubakar said that the tournament is expecting players from Argentina, England, South Africa, Columbia, America and Egypt.
“We are expecting a lot of turnout within and outside the country. We are expecting players from Argentina, England, South Africa, Columbia, America, Egypt and a lot of people will participate and we are expecting a lot of dignitaries to also participate”.
“We are expecting about 60 to 70 teams , but we are mostly likely going to take 50 out of 70 that showed interest.”
“We are calling on the people of Kaduna and Nigeria to join us on the 31st for the opening ceremony.”
The President of Kaduna Polo Club, Mohammed Babangida assures that this tournament will be better than the previous editions. “We are ready to do it better this time around,” Babangida said.
The former President of the Club, Alhaji Suleiman Abubakar, noted that the pitch has been under construction for the past two years to bring it up to the international standard.
“We didn’t play polo last year because the field was not in good shape but this year we are ready, we are here for just opening of the ground to show people that the pitch is ready for the tournament. The pitch in it present condition is better than it has ever been. The pitch is fantastic”.
