The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a man, Manaseh Bitrus Jatau, in connection with the alleged killing of his girlfriend, 35-year-old Rebecca Ojonike Jeremiah, in the Romi area of Kaduna.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Mansir Hassan, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, saying the deceased’s lifeless body was found along Mai Angwa Street, Romi, on September 5, 2026.
According to him, the body was found with cotton wool stuffed in the deceased’s nose and was taken to St. Gerald Hospital, Kakuri, Kaduna, where a medical doctor confirmed her death.
He said the corpse had been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Hassan said preliminary investigation revealed that Jatau was the last person to call the deceased to meet him at Ebano Joint, Romi, adding that detectives subsequently traced and arrested him at his workplace, Tomato Jos Company, Maraban Jos.
The PPRO said the suspect, during interrogation, confessed to having had a fight with the deceased in his room over a phone call from another woman, which, according to his confession, resulted in her death.
He added that the suspect also confessed to dumping the body in an open field close to his house in an attempt to conceal the crime.
According to the police, the suspect remains in custody while investigation into the case continues and would be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, condemned acts of violence and urged members of the public to embrace peaceful resolution of disputes.
He assured residents of the command’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims and bringing perpetrators of crime to book.
