Residents of Kaduna State have expressed appreciation to Governor Uba Sani for providing them free bus services.
They described the initiative as a major relief amid the prevailing economic challenges.
Market women, students, and civil servants who benefitted from the scheme on Tuesday and yesterday commended the governor for what they termed a thoughtful and people-oriented intervention.
The free bus service, introduced by the state government as part of its broader palliative programme, is designed to reduce the burden of transportation costs and improve access to essential services.
Speaking with LEADERSHIP, Mrs Amina Lawal, a trader at the Kaduna Central Market, said the initiative has brought significant relief.
“I was excited this morning when I was asked to enter the vehicle to Kasuwa. At least I saved N1000. I hope it continues.”
“I used to spend a large portion of my earnings on transportation. With this bus service, I think I could save more and support my household better”.
Also, Mr Joseph Dauda, a civil servant, described the intervention as timely and commendable.
“This is a direct way of touching the lives of ordinary citizens. We are hopeful it continues because sustainability is a major problem in our country.”
“I took the free bus from Sabo to town, and I have saved at least N700. If it continues, I will be able to save some money for other things.”
A student of Kaduna Polytechnic, Halima Sani, said the free transportation has eased her daily commute to school.
“Apart from the cost savings, it offers us a safer and more convenient means of getting to campus.”
Governor Uba Sani reiterated his administration’s commitment to delivering impactful governance that prioritises the people’s needs during the launch of the initiative last week.
He noted that the transport support is part of a series of social welfare interventions to mitigate the effects of subsidy removal and rising living costs.
The governor assured that more people-focused programmes would be rolled out in the coming months to support vulnerable populations across the state.
