A community engagement platform, Kaduna Local Government Accountability Mechanism (KAD-LGAM), has admonished the people of the state to contribute to projects to be cited within their areas.
It said it is their right to decide which project should be cited in their communities.
Yusuf Ishaku Goje from KAD-LGAM secretariat made the call yesterday during media dialogue on KAD-LGAM strategic plan and developing citizens report cards for tracking service delivery with support from Partnership to Engage, Reform and Learn (PERL) in Kaduna.
He said KAD-LGAM is a platform that mobilises communities at the local government level to participate in governance and to ensure that government services benefit the people at the community level.
According to him, “Citizens should know that until they perform their roles and duties, they cannot activate their rights.
Citizens have a responsibility to engage the government, to hold the government accountable. We must go out of our comfort zone to do that.
“Citizens feel that the government will work by magic but we have to be that external factor that will make the government do the right thing. We must be that third eye that looks at what the government is doing”.
He therefore urged the media to hold the government accountable in ensuring that the government delivers its mandate to the people.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the state team lead of PERL, Abel Adejor, said the engagement was to support media dialogue on strategic plans and develop citizens report cards for tracking service delivery.
