The Nnamdi Azikiwe Western Bypass project in Kaduna has reached 65 percent completion, the contractor, Dantata & Sawoe Construction Company, has said.

Engr. Nasiru Abdulkadir Dantata, executive director, Dantata & Sawoe Ltd., in an interview in Abuja, said the project, which stretches from Command Junction through Mando to Kawo Bridge is progressing, “so far, on the left lane, up till the end of 2025, we achieved the concrete pavement on that stretch, we have just a little of the drainage to complete that side.”

He said, “From Mando to Kawo is relatively okay now, so we have gone back to Command Junction to start the right hand side. At present, we’re about five kilometres on that side.

“The only time you have issues is when you have breakdown of trailers and many of them would want to repair, now we can work faster on the right hand side, and because we had already gone the entire stretch we can anticipate problems.

“Now we are at maybe 65% completion, the remaining 35% will be faster, but drivers are now speeding especially tricycle and motorcycle operators who are competing with heavy duty trailers.”

Engr. Nasiru Dantata revealed that there are eight pedestrian bridges along the by-pass along the 21 kilometers stretch from Command Junction through Mando to Kawo Bridge.

He added that “We are expecting that by the end of this 2026 the right hand will also reach Mando, but it depends on the rainy season, what will remain in 2027 would just be Mando to Kawo and that is just one and a half kilometer. But definitely in the next year we’re out. In the next month we’ll reach the bridge at River Kaduna”.
